Gallo Auto-Qualifies in Mile; Three Hit Provisional Times

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team pulled out an NCAA automatic-qualifying time and three provisional times Saturday (Feb. 5) in the second day of the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame's Loftus Center.

Fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) blasted through the competition with a first-place performance and an NCAA automatic-qualifying time in the mile run with a time of 4:37.97, while teammate Alyson Kohlmeier (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patricks) posted a fourth-place finish with an NCAA provisional time (4:43.87). Gallo's time was the fastest in Michigan women's track and field history, bettering Courtney Babcock's time of 4:39.31 set in 1998.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) and senior/junior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) also collected NCAA provisional times with Edwards clocking in at 2:07.48 for a third-place finish and Feldkamp placing fourth in 2:08.19.

Sierra Hauser-Price (Van Nuys, Calif./Notre Dame) notched consistent performances after clocking in with a time of 7.54 to take a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash while also registering a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (24.26).

In the high jump, senior Jennifer Williams (Burton, Mich./Atherton) had a clearance of 5-7 to tie for third place in the event.

Michigan returns to action in the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 11-12) at Penn State's Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track in State College, Pa.
