DETROIT, Mich. -- Senior forward Eric Nystrom (Syosset, N.Y.) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team earned the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's award for Best Defensive Forward at the league's annual awards ceremony tonight (Wednesday, March 16) at the Fox Theater. Nystrom is the third consecutive U-M player to earn the honor after Dwight Helminen received it in 2004 and Jed Ortmeyer in 2003.

Winners of the CCHA's individual awards were selected by the 12 head coaches in the CCHA based on their play in conference games, and coaches were not allowed to vote for players from their own team.
As the top seed in the 2005 CCHA Super Six, the fourth-ranked Wolverines have secured a second-round bye and will play the lowest-remaining seed in the first semifinal game Friday (March 18) at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. FSN Detroit will air the game live beginning at 4:30 p.m.
