Williams Qualifies for Regionals in High Jump at FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Senior/junior Jennifer Williams (Burton, Mich./Atherton) cleared an NCAA regional-qualifying height of 5-8 3/4 for the University of Michigan women's track and field team in the outdoor season opener at the FSU Relays Friday (March 18) at the Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State University.

In the Garnet section of the 800-meter run, U-M finished 1-2-3, led by junior/sophomore Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac), who won the event in her first race of the 2005 track and field season, clocking in at 2:12.98. Fifth-year senior Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) finished second in 2:14.98, while sophomore Jackie Gaydos (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park) took third (2:16.35).

In the Garnet section of the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) took first in 4:42.93. In the Gold section of the 3,000-meter run, Michigan took second, third and fourth, led by senior/junior Ana Gjesdal (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) (9:42.84), junior/sophomore Laura Brosius (Saline, Mich./Saline) (9:55.85) and junior/sophomore Arianne Field (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Central) (9:57.36).

Junior/sophomore pole vaulter Kelly Catino (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City) won the Garnet section of the pole vault with a clearance of 11-5 3/4.

In the Gold section of the 4x800-meter relay, Michigan crossed first thanks to junior/sophomore Melissa Dunn (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), junior/sophomore Monica Dunn (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), sophomore/freshman Laura Glynn (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) and fifth-year senior Anna Jones (Omaha, Neb./Marian).

On Thursday (March 17), fifth-year senior Ashley Eckel (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) took first in the Garnet section of the hammer throw with a toss of 169-2.

The Wolverines compete in the final day of the FSU Relays on Saturday (March 19), starting with the Gold section of the pole vault at 1 p.m.
