AUBURN, Ala. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team learned its fate Sunday (April 10) with the drawing of the teams that will make up the two preliminary sessions Thursday, April 21, at the NCAA Championships.
Michigan will face Louisiana State, Utah, Oklahoma, Penn State and Nebraska in the first session of the championships at 1 p.m. CDT. The Wolverines will begin on a bye before moving to the uneven bars, balance beam, a second bye, floor exercise and finally wrapping up on vault.
In the second session, UCLA, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Brigham Young and Iowa State will compete at 7 p.m. CDT.
The top three teams from each session advance to the Super Six on Friday, April 22, which will determine the national champion.
Each session was drawn with three regional winners and three regional runners-up selected randomly from a hat. Rotations within each session were also drawn at random.
Michigan is fresh off winning the NCAA South Central Regional title with a 196.600, defeating host Nebraska in the process. The title is the sixth regional victory in nine seasons for Michigan, which is one of just five programs in the nation to advance to each of the last 13 NCAA Championships.
