Parker Breaks Own Mark; DMR Defends Title at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Fifth-year senior Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) bettered her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the University of Michigan women's track team won its second relay in as many days, taking the distance medley relay title in day two of the Drake Relays Friday (April 29) at Drake Stadium.
Parker clocked in at 10:24.25 for first place, shaving 9.09 seconds off the school record she set at the 2003 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. She set an NCAA Regional qualifying standard a day after helping Michigan defend its 4x1,600-meter relay title. Junior/sophomore Arianne Field (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett) also regionally qualified and had a personal-best time of 10:50.94, good for 10th place and cutting 11.88 seconds off her previous fastest time.
Fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) and junior/sophomore Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) returned as half of Michigan's title-winning DMR squad from the 2004 Drake Relays and teamed with freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) and senior Sierra Hauser-Price (Van Nuys, Calif./Notre Dame) to clock in at 11:10.80, 4.79 seconds shy of the program record. Edwards and Gallo also defended Michigan's 4x1,600-meter relay title in day one of the Drake Relays, making Michigan perfect in the middle-distance relays so far.
Michigan will wrap up the Drake Relays Saturday (April 30) and attempt to defend its third relay title in the 4x800-meter relay.
