U-M Quartet Receives All-Central Region Recognition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seniors Leah Ketcheson (Belleville, Ontario/Bayside SS), Brett Sickler (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS), Crystal Culp (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley SS) and Tara Medina (Mill Bay, B.C./Brentwood CS) were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Central Region teams today (Friday, May 20). Ketcheson and Sickler are on the first team, while Culp and Medina are on the second team.
Ketcheson, U-M's six seat in the first varsity eight, was also a 2005 All-Big Ten Conference first team honoree. As a junior in 2004, she was first team All-America, first team All-Central Region and first team All-Big Ten selection. During her freshman campaign Ketcheson collected All-Central Region second team honors and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Sickler, the first varsity eight's second seat, was an All-Big Ten second team selection earlier this season. She has been in Michigan's top boat in each of the last three seasons.
Culp has rowed in the Wolverines' top boat for three-plus years. She has spent this season in the seven seat. Previously this year she earned All-Big Ten second team accolades. In 2004, Culp was on the second team for both the All-Central Region and All-Big Ten squads.
Medina, the first varsity eight's coxswain for the past two seasons, was All-Central Region second team and All-Big Ten second team in 2004.
The No. 12-ranked Wolverines received their eighth consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships earlier this week. U-M will travel to Sacramento, Calif., for the competition, which runs May 27-29 on Lake Natoma.
