U-M Head Coach James Henry
On Michigan's first performances ... "I liked how our team advanced. Sierra Hauser-Price competed head-to-head against some of the top girls in the country to move on to the finals. I'm also happy with Katie Erdman, who made it into the finals. Three out of four individuals advanced into their finals, and everyone competed hard."
On U-M's standing in tomorrow's final round ... "We have three in the 1,500, three in the steeple, Rebecca in the 5,000; we're in a good position to do well. We have enough people here to be considered a team, but the goal is to achieve in individual performances and determine what each competitor can do individually to make them a stronger representative of the team."
Senior Sierra Hauser-Price
On her preliminary performances ... "I feel like I accomplished what I needed to accomplish to qualify. Tomorrow, it will be anybody's game -- whoever runs the fastest is going to go to nationals. My goal is to one of those five people. I think I always have confidence when I run. Tomorrow, there can't be any inkling of me doubting myself. I have to go out there knowing I can compete with the best of them."
Junior/Sophomore Katie Erdman
On her 800-meter prelim ... "For the first time in a long time, I was actually able to relax and enjoy my race. I think my performance was a product of that. I was able to just let myself run. I'm pretty happy with my race, and hopefully that will bode well for tomorrow."
Senior Ashley Eckel
On her hammer throw performance ... "I think today went fine, but it didn't quite go as well as I would have liked. I didn't have a very high expectation of making nationals, because the field is so deep, but I did want to throw a personal best and possibly make finals, but that didn't happen. That was somewhat of a disappointing way to end my hammer career, but it came off a pretty good season, so I can't be too disappointed with it. I also have shot put tomorrow, so I can channel my leftover energy in shot put, and hopefully do some good things there."
