Wolverines Land Three More Recruits for 2006 Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's gymnastics head coach Kurt Golder announced today (Monday, May 31) the addition of three gymnasts to his 2006 squad. Scott Bregman (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State High School), Kent Caldwell (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) and Phillip Goldberg (Chattanooga, Tenn./McCallie School) will join the Wolverines this fall to complete a seven-member freshman class.
The trio joins Joe Catrambone (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic HS), Ryan McCarthy (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community HS), Ralph Rosso (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney HS) and Jamie Thompson (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), who signed with Michigan last fall.
Bregman comes to Michigan from Lawrence Gymnastics Academy in Lawrence, Kan. He was a four-time Junior Olympic first team Academic All-American (2002-05) and a five-time Kansas State all-around champion (2001-05). He also placed sixth on the floor exercise at the 2004 Junior Olympic Nationals.
Caldwell, coached by Nick Baker, competes for the Charlotte Gymnastics Academy in Charlotte, N.C. He was also a 2005 Junior Olympic USA Gymnastics first team Academic All-American.
Goldberg currently competes for Premier Athletics in Knoxville, Tenn., and placed 55th in the all-around at the 2005 Junior Olympic Nationals (May 6-8).
Previous signee Catrambone, who competes for the Temple University Boys Gymnastics Team, is closing out his high school career on a high note. He recently placed seventh in the all-around and still rings and sixth on high bar at the 2005 Junior Olympic Nationals. At the 2005 Pennsylvania State Championships he captured his third straight all-around title and grabbed first place on the rings. He also went on to win the rings at the 2005 Region Seven Championships.
McCarthy was also a 2005 Junior Olympic USA Gymnastics first team Academic All-American and placed 58th in the all-around at this year's Junior Nationals.
