McGuire Voted NCAA Mideast Regional Assistant of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan womens track and field associate head coach Mike McGuire was named NCAA Mideast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) (June 16). McGuire previously earned NCAA Great Lakes Regional and Big Ten Cross Country Coach of the Year honors in the fall.
In 15 seasons with the Wolverine womens track program, McGuire has helped lead his distance runners to 39 All-America honors and 54 Big Ten Conference individual titles. Michigan finished third at the 2005 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, qualifying 13 athletes in 15 events and winning the 1,500- and 5,000-meter run. The Wolverines qualified seven competitors to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, posting their best finish in six years with a share of 29th place and earning a pair of All-America honors. In the indoor season, Michigan won a national title in the distance medley relay, earning five All-America honors and recording the best team finish in seven years with a 13th-place showing.
In 14 seasons at the helm of Michigans womens cross country program, McGuire has earned four NCAA Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year honors, while adding six Big Ten Cross Country Coach of the Year trophies to his mantle. He led U-M to its third consecutive Big Ten cross country title in the fall and helped the Wolverines capture the programs fourth regional title. Michigan finished sixth in the nation, posting its seventh top-10 finish under McGuire.
