Canty, Gallo, Parker Competing at USA Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three members of the 2005 University of Michigan women's track and field team are headed to Carson, Calif., to compete in national championships June 23-26 at the Home Depot Center.
Graduates Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) and Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) will compete in the 1,500-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while freshman Lisa Canty (Highland, Mich./Milford) will run in the 3,000-meter run at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Gallo qualified for the championships at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a pair of sub-4:16 times in the 1,500-meter run, finishing seventh in the nation and earning her second-straight All-America honor in the event. Parker punched her ticket with a school-record time of 10:13.88 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished 13th in the nation. Canty redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons but qualified for the championships with a 10:00.04 performance in the 3,000-meter run at the EMU Twilight, competing unattached.
Qualifying athletes at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will compete for the USA at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships (Aug. 6-14) in Helsinki, Finland. Qualifiers at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships will compete for USA in the Pan-American Junior Championships at the Pan-American Games (July 29-31) in Windsor, Ontario.
