MONTREAL, Quebec -- Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey), and Alyson Kohlmeier (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patrick's), freshmen on the 2005 University of Michigan women's track and field team, won the 1,500-meter run and took third in the 3,000-meter run respectively at the Canadian Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships (July 8-10) at the Claude Robillard Centre.
Both showings qualify the Wolverines for the Pan-American Games (July 29-31) in Windsor, Ontario, where they will represent Canada in the Pan-Am Junior Championships. Edwards clocked in at 4:26.31 on Sunday (July 10), 5.85 seconds faster than the next fastest competitor, while Kohlmeier took third in the 3,000-meter run on Friday (July 8), clocking in at 9:31.73, just 0.44 seconds out of second and 1.05 seconds out of top spot.
The duo will join freshman Lisa Canty (Highland, Mich./Milford), who took second in the 3,000-meter run at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June to earn the right to compete for the U.S. at the Pan-Am Junior Championships.
