Michigan Wins Five Event Titles at Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team posted four NCAA provisional times and four event wins as it dominated the middle-distance and distance races Saturday (Jan. 14) on the final day of the two-day Kentucky Invitational.
The four event victories added to the 4x800-meter relay win the Wolverines earned on Friday, when their time of 8:45.64 beat by more than two seconds U-M's previous Nutter Field House record it set in last year's meet.
U-M started the second day off strong in the mile, claiming three of the top five spots. Sophomore Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) led the way for the Wolverines, taking first (4:49.07), with Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) in second and Arianne Field (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett) crossing the line in fifth.
Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) earned Michigan's first NCAA provisional time of the day in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.31. Amber Hay (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and Melissa Dunn (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) also made a strong showing for the Maize and Blue, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.
Led by Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child), Michigan continued to show its strength in the distance events, taking five out top seven places in the 3,000 meter run. The junior broke the six-year facility record by nearly two seconds, finishing in 9:19.37. Webster and teammate Rebecca Walter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) each posted NCAA provisional marks as they finished 1-2 in the race. Alyson Kohlmeier (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patrick's), Heather Sirko (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and Ana Gjesdal (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) posted the top times for Michigan in the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash. The freshman earned fourth in the hurdles (8.60) while notching ninth in the dash (7.71). Ofili later went on to earn her third and fourth top-10 finishes of the day in the 200-meter dash (ninth) and long jump (fourth). Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington) edged Ofili in the long jump by 2.75 inches to take third in the event.
Jennifer Williams (Burton, Mich./Atherton) led the Maize and Blue in all field events, winning the high jump with an NCAA provisional clearance of 5-10. Stephanie Linz (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and Wade rounded out the Wolverines in the event, placing third and fourth, respectively.
Jamie Barbour (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) was Michigan's top performer in the shot put with ninth place, while Kelly Catino (Traverse City, Mich./Central) and Kristin Pearson (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) each cleared 11-5 3/4 in the pole vault on the first day of competition to finish sixth and eighth, respectively.
Michigan will the Red Simmons Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 21) at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
