DETROIT -- Five former University of Michigan football players and an assistant coach will participate in Super Bowl XL, which will be held Sunday, Feb. 5, at Ford Field in Detroit. The game between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers will be televised nationally by ABC Sports and internationally starting at 6:25 p.m. EST.
The Steelers have a pair of former Wolverines in starting inside linebacker Larry Foote and tight end Jerame Tuman. A second-year starter, Foote will return to his hometown of Detroit (Pershing High School) for the Super Bowl after collecting an interception in the AFC title game at Denver. Tuman is in his seventh season with the organization.
Pittsburgh became the first No. 6 seed to advance to the Super Bowl with a 34-17 victory against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. The Steelers will be making their sixth appearance (4-1 record) in a Super Bowl, while Seattle gained the franchise's initial berth with a commanding 34-14 win over the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship game.
Transaction (Jan. 24): The Pittsburgh Steelers signed former U-M defensive tackle Grant Bowman to the practice squad through Super Bowl XL.
