Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Burnett
On tonight's game ... "In the first half we gave up 10 uncontested layups and it was basically their post running the floor. We also had 15 turnovers in the first half, so if their posts weren't getting layups on one end, we were turning the ball over on our end. I thought we did a decent job against their pressure, and after we broke their pressure, we were giving it right back to them when trying to attack the rim. Nebraska's post play absolutely dominated the game. We have a lot of work to do. I really felt that our kids did a good job of trying to play it out until the end. Nebraska does a great job of spotting up their shooters, which we knew coming in. I thought we did a good job on their perimeter play, but again it seemed like their post players were scoring at will."
On the job Michigan did against Nebraska's full-court press ... "We've made some really great adjustments when teams have pressed us. We actually didn't turn it over against their pressure tonight. We did a great job of breaking it down. When we got past their pressure and had an advantage on offense, that's when we'd turn the ball over. Nebraska did a good job of pressuring our guards in the first half. We'd pick up our dribble and get ourselves into trouble."
On the highlights of the game ... "Janelle Cooper just continues to play hard and Kelly Helvey did a great job for us off the bench. I thought we got some good quality minutes from Ashley Jones and Krista Clement. We just need to find some consistency. I thought those kids came in and really tried hard to execute and get things going for us."
On the job Nebraska did on defending Krista Phillips ... "We're not a great post-passing team. We're not getting the ball down low when it's really easy for them to possess. Nebraska played behind Krista and tried to body her out of the lane. Krista would have to kick the ball out, and not a lot of great things came from that. We've got to be able to get it into the post and have our post finish with some good scoring. Those will be the things that we'll work on."
