Webster Runs 5,000m Auto-Qualifying Time at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team earned an NCAA automatic and provisional qualifying time on the final day of competition at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 11) at Arkansas' Randal Tyson Indoor Track.

Junior Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) led the Wolverines as she earned her first NCAA automatic-qualifying time of the year. Webster earned the qualifying time in the Championship section of the 5,000-meter run as she took second place, coming up short of first place by just 0.02 seconds, with a time of 16:06.58.

Closing out the distance runners was fifth-year senior Ana Gjesdal (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) as she took first place in the College section of the 3,000-meter run. Gjesdal finished with a personal-best time of 9:37.54 to top the 33-person field.

Sophomore Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) earned her second NCAA provisional qualifying time, as she took second in the Championship section of the 800m with a time of 2:07.04.

In the field events, freshman Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington) took third place in the high jump with a clearance of 5-6 1/2. Freshman Casey Taylor (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) took 14th place in the triple jump with a jump of 39-0 1/2.

The Wolverines will come back to Ann Arbor to host the Harold Silverston Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
