Silva Headed to China for 2006 World Championships

Silva's Results: In breaststroke preliminary competition Silva finished 29th in the 50-meter race (33.95), 28th in the 100-meter event (1:14.53), and 23rd in the 200-meter race (2:43.53). The top 16 advanced to the semifinals in the 50- and 100-meter events, and the top eight made the final in the 200-meter competition.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Valeria Silva (Lima, Peru/Alexander von Humboldt) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team will represent her native country of Peru in the eighth FINA World Swimming Championships that will be held April 5-9 at the recently completed Qi Zhong Stadium in Shanghai, China.

Silva is slated to compete in the 50-meter breaststroke on April 5, the 100-meter breaststroke on April 7, and the 200-meter breaststroke on April 9.
The preliminary heats will begin at 9:30 a.m. local time with the semifinals and finals beginning at 7 p.m. Races at the biannual event, which has been held since 1993, are in 25-meter short course and participants from throughout the world compete.
Silva was one of 10 Wolverines invited to the NCAA Championships on March 16-18 in Athens, Ga. She placed 41st in the 100-yard breaststroke with her time of 1:05.44. Her season-best time of 1:03.58 at the Texas A&M Invitational (Nov. 19) in the 100-yard breaststroke was the fastest on the team in the event.
