Fetter Earns Freshman All-America Recognition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. C University of Michigan sophomore/freshman RHP Chris Fetter (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) was named to Baseball America's Freshman All-American second team for the 2006 season.
Fetter, a first team All-Big Ten starting pitcher, was 5-2 in his first season on the mound for the Wolverines and he was named winner of the Betty Simmons Award as the most improved player on the Michigan baseball team.
Fetter made 16 appearances including 10 starts in 2006 leading the Big Ten in overall action with his 2.22 ERA. He pitched 73 innings and had a save to go along with his five wins. He pitched a complete game four-hit shutout at Minnesota and shared in three other Wolverine shutouts.
Fetter was second on the staff with 48 strikeouts and his .246 opponent batting average led the Michigan starting corps. He pitched 13.2 shutout innings in his last two Big Ten starts vs. Penn State (6.2 in 2-0 win) and Iowa (7.0 in a no decision). He collected a post-season win over Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament and suffered a loss to Vanderbilt in the NCAA Atlanta Regional.

A record three Wolverines earned Freshman All-American honors in 2006 with RHP Chris Fetter on Baseball America's second team while true freshmen Adam Abraham (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./South) and Zach Putnam (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) were named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team as selected by Collegiate Baseball.
The Wolverines had two freshmen All-Americans in 1985 when RHPs Mike Ignasiak and Jim Agemy were both Baseball America second team picks and again in 1993 when outfielders Scott Weaver (first team) and Brian Simmons (honorable mention) were named to the Mizuno Freshman All-American team.
Pro Wolverine Updates: LHP Rich Hill (2000-02) of the Iowa Cubs was the starting pitcher for the Pacific Coast League and he tossed two shutout innings against the International League in the AAA All-Star game hosted by Toledo Veteran minor leaguer 3B Mike Cervenak (1996-99), U-M's all-time hit leader (293, 1996-99), has returned from Korea and re-signed with the San Francisco Giants organization and in his first 20 games at AAA Fresno he was he was hitting .364 with three doubles, three homers and 16 RBI Former Wolverine fan favorite OF Gino Lollio (2000-03) is playing pro baseball in Italy and he is a member of Italy's National Team LHP Drew Taylor (2003, 05-06), a Wolverine co-captain this past season, is 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA in seven outings as a pro rookie with the Pulaski Blue Jays in the Toronto organization and he is writing articles on the Pulaski website.
