Michigan Head Coach Andrew Sapp
On the U-M's performance at the Windon Memorial Classic ... "There were some positives out of this weekend, but the biggest problem was we had guys who played two good rounds and then had a bad round. We did have some scores under par, which was good to see. Playing in the final group among a good field you always have to be happy with that. We just slipped up at little bit in the final round. Indiana played great to pass us. Minnesota played well and they got by us as well. That's what happens when you shoot 10-over in the final round in a tight field. You are going to have some team's just a shot or two behind you and then sneak up and pass you."
On having a let down in the final round for the second straight tournament ... "I don't know if it is a mystery, but it is definitely discouraging. I would like to be the team, like Indiana this week, or Penn State last week, and fire that great final round and basically win the final day of play. We haven't done that this year. But it has to be our goal for the remaining two tournaments of the fall. We just need to be able to finish a tournament better."
On if U-M is ready to head out west and play ... "I hope so. It's kind of the situation where I don't think all fall we have had our good round, or our good tournament as a team. So, from that standpoint, you look at it as a positive that hopefully these last two tournaments everyone is going to come together and play well. We have had a lot of good individual rounds and individual tournaments, but we need to get everyone on the same page at the same time and ... shoot ... we will win the tournament."
Freshman Lion Kim
On the tournament weekend for the Wolverines ... "We put a little too much pressure on ourselves. We were thinking about what other people were doing and not really focusing on our games. I know I was. I was thinking about other guys and didn't really concentrate on my game. We had a top five finish here, so that is a positive. It's not like we played horrible. It's just that other teams played better than us. So, I think everyone is playing well and has played well, but I think it was a shot here and a shot there. We just weren't able to get the putts to drop when we needed them too."
On the impact he and fellow freshman Alexander Sitompul have had on U-M ... "I feel Alexander and I have brought a really positive attitude to the team. We are off to an okay start. It was just this week we didn't bring our 'A' game. But overall I think he and I have just brought a good positive attitude."
Freshman Alexander Sitompul
On starting strong at the Windon ... "I played tour golf in the first round then sort of lost my swing. I started hitting it all over the planet. It's true. I just hit it all over the place. I couldn't putt. I couldn't chip. I couldn't hit a drive. It was just kind of gone. I just found some adrenaline and then just really brought back and the final nine holes I felt comfortable again. I just need to learn to stay patient. I know I am not the most patient person. Collegiate courses are not as forgiving as they were in junior golf, but I am adjusting. I just need stay patient."
On the impact he and Lion Kim have had on U-M ... "I think we have raised the team spirit a little bit. I feel the team is driven to play better. It has shown in the results so far. I hope that can continue throughout the rest of the season. I know Lion and I just want to do what we can to help this team win."
