First Eight Earns Top Four Finishes at Cal-Sag Regatta

BLUE ISLAND, Ill. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team concluded its fall racing schedule at the Cal-Sag Collegiate Regatta in suburban Chicago on Sunday (Nov. 4). The event involved a morning 5,000-meter head race and the more customary 2,000-meter racing in the afternoon. U-M boated two varsity eights and two novice eights.
Michigan's first varsity eight placed fourth (16:02.600) out of 22 crews in the head race. First place went to Wisconsin 'A' (15:45.000), second place went to Minnesota 'A' (15:53.500) and third went to Michigan State 'A' (15:54.400). U-M's second varsity eight took 12th in a time of 16:31.300. The other participants in the regatta were Iowa, Indiana and Notre Dame.
The 2,000-meter sprint match-ups were determined using the finishes from the head races. The top four finishers from the head race competed amongst themselves, as did finishers five through eight, nine through 12 and so on. U-M's first varsity eight placed third (6:55.451) behind the Badgers (6:45.499) and Spartans (6:45.767).
The Wolverine second varsity eight was fourth (7:06.721) in its 2,000-meter race behind two Golden Gopher crews (6:51.190, 6:56.411) and a Spartan boat (6:54.915).
Michigan's novice boats were sixth and 13th out of 17 crews in their separate head race.
