AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Michael Whitehead (East Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team represented the Wolverines at the 80th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, competing in the triple jump Saturday (April 7) at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Despite bad weather conditions that included cold temperatures, high winds and sleet, Whitehead was still able to land a regional qualifying mark of 49-10 1/2 to win section A of the event. His closest competitor, James Jenkins of Arkansas State, was the only other athlete out of the 11 total competitors that recorded a score, finishing with a mark of 48-8.
The Wolverines will split their squad next week, sending a contingent to the Sea Ray Relays (April 12-14) in Knoxville, Tenn., and the remaining portion of the team to the Michigan State Open (April 14) in East Lansing.
