Wolverines Send Vaulters, Throwers to Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team sent its pole vaulters and throwers to represent the team at the Duke Blue Devil Invitational Friday and Saturday (April 6-7) at Wallace Wade Stadium.
In the pole vault, junior/sophomore Jennifer Mehl (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) finished in sixth place with a career-best clearance of 11-11 3/4, falling short of hitting the NCAA regional clearance by six inches. Fifth-year senior co-captain Kristin Pearson (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS) finished ninth, clearing 11-5 3/4 to match her season best.
Senior/junior Bridgette Maynard (Clawson, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) was the lone Wolverine in the hammer throw, claiming 11th place with a toss of 156-7. Maynard was also the only competitor for U-M in the discus, posting an eighth-place distance of 147-8.
The Wolverines will continue action in the South, competing in the Sea Ray Relays on Thursday through Saturday (April 12-14) in Knoxville, Tenn. The three-day meet is hosted by the University of Tennessee at Tom Black Track.
