Wade, Webster Take Third at Regional, Earn NCAA Trip

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team finished the first day of competition at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships tied for fourth place with 12 points Friday (May 25) at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Sophomore co-captain Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington, HS) added six points to the U-M tally with a third-place finish in the high jump (5-11 1/4), earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with her top-five finish.
Senior Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) also punched her ticket to the NCAAs, qualifying in the 5,000m run with a third-place time of 16:18.64.
In the 800m run, the Wolverines automatically advanced fifth-year senior co-captain Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS) and sophomore Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) to tomorrow's finals. Erdman posted the fastest time, clocking in with a career-best, U-M/meet/stadium record time of 2:01.25. Gall claimed the second-fastest time in the prelims with a season-best time of 2:04.07.
In the 100m hurdles, sophomore Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) also automatically qualified to the event finals with the fastest time, clocking in at 13.20.
Junior Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey HS) was the lone Wolverine to compete in the 1,500m run, qualifying for the finals with a time of 4:19.23.
The Wolverines will compete in the final day of the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday (May 26) at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
