ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan water polo head coach Matt Anderson announced Friday (Aug. 17) the addition of Katie Card as the assistant coach on his staff.
Card
"Katie is going to bring a lot of energy to the program," Anderson said. "Coming from Cal-Berkeley, she understands the expectations in both athletics and academics that we have here at Michigan."
Card will assume the role vacated by Jennifer Durley, who departed Michigan to take the head coaching job at UC Santa Barbara. Card will work on recruiting and individual skills with the players and goalies.
Card comes to Ann Arbor after serving as the assistant head varsity coach at Miramonte (Calif.) High School for one season. It was her second stint as a coach for Miramonte; she had previously been a junior varsity co-head coach in 2003.
A four-year letterwinner for Cal, Card scored 55 goals during her collegiate career (2003-06). A driver by trade, she was tabbed AWPCA All-America honorable mention and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honorable mention during her senior season in which she netted a career-best 19 markers. She also served as team captain during her junior and senior seasons.
Card moved on to play water polo in Austrialia's National Water Polo League for the St. George Dragons. The Dragons play at Sydney University in Sydney, Australia.
