Wolverines Ranked Fifth in Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW YORK -- The University of Michigan football team will start the 2007 season as the fifth-ranked team in the country according to the USA Today Coaches Poll released Friday morning (Aug. 4). The Wolverines finished the 2006 season ranked ninth in the coaches poll.
The Wolverines received two first-place votes from the coaches and 1,218 total points to list among the top five teams nationally. Southern California is the preseason top-ranked team followed by Louisiana State, Florida, Texas and Michigan, respectively.
The Big Ten Conference leads all conferences with three top 10 schools. In addition to Michigan, the league is represented by No. 7 Wisconsin and No. 10 Ohio State in the top 10. Penn State rounds out the conference contingent with its selection at No. 18 nationally.
