LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team finished the LMU/Four Points Sheraton Culver City Classic winless following a 3-0 loss to host Loyola Marymount Sunday (Sept. 16) on Sullivan Field. After a scoreless first half, the Wolverines allowed a season-high three goals in the second stanza en route to the loss.
The first half was an even affair as both teams exchanged chances, but neither team's defense allowed a conversion. The Wolverines held a narrow 5-3 shot advantage -- which they held the entire game -- at the halftime break. Freshman Amanda Bowery (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) almost put Michigan on the board late in the first half with a header from right on top of the Lions goalkeeper, but it was played cleanly by Loyola. Shortly after the start of the second frame, Loyola Marymount took a 1-0 advantage off a cross play in the box. Gabby Parisella gave the Lions the lead in the 52nd minute -- an advantage they wouldn't surrender.
Michigan had its share of chances, with freshman Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and senior Sarah Banco (Medfield, Mass./Noble and Greenough School) each taking a pair of strikes at the Lions goalkeeper. The Wolverines got their best chance to solve Joslyn Slovek -- who made seven saves -- in the 55th minute off the foot of Banco. Down 1-0, Banco let a long-range shot go with its sights set on the upper-corner. Slovek was equal to the task, stretching out to nudge the ball over the crossbar.
The margin became larger in the 59th minute as LMU took a 2-0 lead off of a freekick goal from Leslie Grandy. The Lions put the game out of reach eight minutes later when Lacey Bartels scored on a penalty kick, giving the Lions a 3-0 edge.
Michigan returns home to round out its non-conference schedule with a evening game against Miami (Ohio) Friday (Sept. 21) on the U-M Soccer Field. Actions begins at 7:30 p.m.

U-M Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On the game... "It was pretty rough. We were totally in it, we out shot them. We gave up that first goal early in the second half. Then the free kick -- scored on that -- and the penalty kick -- scored on that -- which kind of put the nail in the coffin right there. It was kind of a similar story as Friday's game. We are just having a hard time putting the ball in the net and then we make some mistakes and we are paying for it."
