The preseason No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will take on No. 7 LSU, No. 19 Boise State and North Carolina in the regular-season opener at the Cancun Classic. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m. CST Friday (Jan. 2) at the Hilton Resort and Beach in Cancun, Mexico.
Michigan will be competing in another country for the first time since 1994. The Wolverines return 11 letterwinners from last year's squad, including three All-Americans in seniors Becky Bernard and Tatjana Thuener-Rego and sophomore Kylee Botterman.
Michigan and LSU are tied 3-3 in the all-time series, with the Wolverines defeating the Tigers twice in three days in 1992 when the programs last met during the regular season. U-M has never faced Boise State or North Carolina in the regular season.
