
Bruck Named Regional Gymnast of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich..-- Fifth/senior Lindsey Bruck(Marietta, N.Y./Marcellus) of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics became U-M's second two-time NCAA Northeast Regional Gymnast of the Year, announced by the NCAA Tuesday (April 14). A Wolverine gymnast has been named regional gymnast of the year in five of the last six years.
Bruck was voted NCAA Northeast Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2006 after a season in which she was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week four times and won the balance beam and all-around titles at the Big Ten Championships. This season, Bruck earned three Big Ten Gymnast of the Week awards to tie for the Conference record with nine career laurels, while being named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and finishing runner-up on beam at the Big Ten Championships. She finished runner-up in the all-around (39.375) and tied for second on the balance beam (9.900) at the NCAA West Regional, helping Michigan advance to its 16th consecutive NCAA Championships.
Michigan's only other two-time NCAA Northeast Regional Gymnast of the Year was Elise Ray who earned the honor in 2004 and 2005. Michigan's first regional gymnast of the year was Calli Ryals, who earned the honor in 2002.
Michigan will head to the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., to compete from Thursday through Saturday (April 24-26) on the campus of the University of Georgia. Michigan will compete in the evening session of the NCAA Preliminaries on Thursday (April 24) with the host Georgia Bulldogs, Utah, Stanford, UCLA and Denver. The Wolverines will begin the meet on bye before the floor exercise, rotating to floor, vault, bye before uneven bars, bars and then ending the meet on the balance beam. The top three teams in each of the preliminaries will advance to Friday night's Super Six (April 25) which will decide the national champion. Saturday night (April 26) is reserved for the NCAA Individual Event Finals where all of Thursday's first team All-Americans will compete to see who is the best of the best.
