PHILADELPHIA , Pa. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team's 4x1,500-meter relay squad of freshman Danielle Tauro(Manahawken, N.J./Southern Regional), graduate/senior Toni Salucci(Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), junior Geena Gall(Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) and senior co-captain Nicole Edwards(Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) earned a first-place finish at the Penn Relays, running a 17:28.98 Friday (April 25) to mark Michigan's second event win of the relays.
Tauro started things off for the Wolverines, earning the lead with a 4:25.10 split. Salucci's 4:27.10 split time continued the U-M lead until the third lap when Tennessee pulled ahead. At the baton exchange to Gall, Michigan was third behind both Tennessee and Georgetown. Gall handed the lead back to the Wolverines with a split of 4:18.30 on the third leg. The Volunteers threatened again, staying on Edwards' heels on the last leg, but she finished with a 4:18.50 to seal the U-M win.
U-M won the 4x1,500-meter relay last season at the same event with a Penn Relays record of 17:15.62. Gall and Edwards were part of that team, along with former Wolverines Anna Willard and Katie Erdman.
The Wolverines will conclude competition in both the Drake and Hillsdale Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and Hillsdale, Mich. Saturday (April 26).
