Mehl Clears Personal Best in Pole Vault at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Senior/junior Jennifer Mehl(Novi, Mich./Novi) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team cleared a new personal best in the pole vault (12-7 1/2) to earn an NCAA regional mark and place third in the event Saturday (April 26) at the Hillsdale Relays. Mehl's previous personal best was 12-3 1/2, while her outdoor best was 12-1 1/2.

Senior Samantha Smith(South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) finished second in the heptathlon, which was contested Wednesday and Thursday (April 23-24). Smith came in first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.45) and the high jump (5-5 1/4), finished second in the long jump (17-5 1/4), and took third in the javelin (95-9 3/4).

Freshman Jennifer Neville(Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) excelled in the sprints, placing fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.65) and third in the 200-meter dash (25.12), while sophomore Alisha Cole(Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) came in fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.22) and 11th in the 100-meter dash (12.67).

Michigan will compete at the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) in Columbus, Ohio.
