Ofili Sets Meet, Facility Marks at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Junior co-captain Tiffany Ofili(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team won the 100-meter hurdles and set Drake Relays meet and facility records with her 12.81 clocking Saturday (April 26). Ofili was one of six Wolverines with an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying performance during the two days of competition.
Ofili's time was one hundredth of a second off her school-record time of 12.80. Ofili also ran the anchor on U-M's winning entry in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay. The team, composed of Ofili, junior co-captain Bettie Wade(Northville, Mich./Farmington), junior Katie LaValley(Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) and sophomore Charnee Lumbus(Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood), finished with a time of 55.04.
LaValley and junior Amber Hay(Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) both earned NCAA regional qualifying times in the 400-meter hurdles. LaValley came in eighth with a 1:00.19 and Hay finished 10th in 1:00.62.
Also earning NCAA regional qualifying marks were Wade, who finished fourth in the high jump (5-8 3/4); freshman Emily Pendleton(Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore), who came in fourth in the discus (161-5); and junior Casey Taylor(Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), who placed fifth in the triple jump (41-9 3/4).
Michigan will compete at the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) in Columbus, Ohio.
