
Michigan Set to Host ITA Summer Circuit

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, will be coming to the University of Michigan this Saturday through Monday (July 5-7). The Varsity Tennis Center will serve as the host site of the first leg of the Midwest regional circuit for the eighth time in the last nine years.
Four current Wolverines will head to Ann Arbor to participate in the event. Senior Mike DePietro(Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS), junior Matt Parks(Troy, Mich./Troy HS) and sophomore David Streeter(Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS) will represent the U-M men's program, while sophomore Denise Muresan(Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson HS) will represent the Maize and Blue women.
The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit is made up of seven regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Southwest and West) for collegiate players (events are also open to junior players and the general public). Each region consists of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July. Over 22,000 men and women have competed in the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit since it began in 1993.
Each tournament on the circuit includes a 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket for both men and women. Competition will begin at 8 a.m. each day. Admission is free of charge.
The ITA National Summer Championships, presented by the USTA, are the pinnacle of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit. This year's tournament takes place Aug. 11-15 at Indiana University. Champions from this tournament gain wild cards into the D'Novo/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in October, the first national tournaments of the 2008-09 collegiate tennis season.
