SALINE, Mich. C The University of Michigan men's soccer team defeated Oregon State 4-0 on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 31) at Saline High School's Hornets Stadium Field in the second match of the Michigan/Oakland Invitational.
Junior Julian Robles(Los Angeles, Calif./Damien), senior Jake Stacy(Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central), junior Peri Marosevic(Rockford, Ill./Edison Academy) and fifth-year senior Michael Parke(Portage, Mich./Portage Central) each tallied goals for the Wolverines in the victory. Senior/junior goalkeeper Patrick Sperry(Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) made two saves to record the shutout.
Robles opened the scoring for the Maize and Blue at the 14:20 mark, picking up a loose ball 30 yards from goal and unleashing a shot that beat the Oregon State goalkeeper to the right side to give Michigan a 1-0 lead.
Stacy doubled the Wolverine advantage in the 27th minute off an assist from senior/junior Tom McCurdy(Vicksburg, Mich./Portage Central). McCurdy, who had recently come on as a substitute to make his first collegiate appearance, laid a pass to Stacy who fired a shot from 18 yards and beat the Beaver goalkeeper. The goal was Stacy's second of the season.
Following halftime, Marosevic scored at 65:30 to give U-M a 3-0 lead. Junior Mauro Fuzetti(Houston, Texas/Stratford) came down the left-hand side for the Wolverines and scooted a pass to Marosevic, who was all alone at the back post and finished into the open net. The goal was the third of the season for Marosevic.
Parke finished the scoring for Michigan in the 75th minute. After the Wolverines earned a free kick, Stacy served a ball into the box to junior/sophomore Matt Schmitt(Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) who headed it to Parke. Parke then made no mistake in slotting the ball into the net from eight yards out.
The Wolverines return to the field next weekend as they head to San Diego, Calif., for two matches at the San Diego State Tournament. U-M will face San Diego State on Friday (Sept.5) at 4 p.m. PDT and San Diego on Sunday (Sept. 7) at 1 p.m. PDT.

Michigan Head Coach Steve Burns
On playing at Saline High School's football field... "We know we have a good following of fans, and this is a nice venue to play at. Certainly, we'd like to be on campus to get the student crowd out. We know that's coming. The guys have adapted to the field here no problem. We've played games here before. I don't think people realize, but in the past eight or nine years, we have played on five or six different home fields and five or six different practice fields. We've been pretty nomadic for most of our existence. This doesn't really faze us."
On the overall team effort... "From the starting unit to all the reserves that we brought in, I think everyone was looking to find that team's jugular and get after it. Our guys did a good job across the board."
U-M Senior Forward Jake Stacy
On what the weekend means for the team... "I think (Friday) was important for us because it was a game where things didn't go our way and we still fought through it and ended up getting the victory. That was definitely a good sign for us. Today, obviously we came out and played really well. We dominated and you can never complain about that."
U-M Senior/Junior Forward Tom McCurdy:
On seeing his first action of the season... "I was very excited to get on the field and play with this team. I thought the team was playing very well. I was just excited to be part of it."
