Michigan Head Coach Greg Ryan
On the road trip to Arizona... "It really prepared us for the Big Ten season. A lot of the teams we played haven't provided us the challenge we needed for the conference season, they are decent, but these two games were critical. For us to do the traveling and play these games away has given us a lot of preparation heading into next weeks games."
On the team's progress so far this season... "We are a work in progress in so many areas. When we played Notre Dame, we gave up seven goals so we have been working on team defense and we will still work on that because if we can keep the other team off the board it will increase our chances to win. On offense, we are working on counter attacking which is how we play. We are getting high-percentage scoring chances which are what we are looking for."
On the play of Madison Gates... "I think Madison is also learning how to play in our system and she is getting better and better at it. In the past, she had to do everything behind the defense. The way we are playing now is trying to limit other teams options behind the defense and that shared responsibility is working for us and Madison is grasping that and is able to lead from the back and give directions and she has just continued to improve as the season has gone on."
