
Michigan Finishes Third at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team finished third with 714 points at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday morning (Jan. 10) at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. No. 13 Tennessee won the event with 1,454 points and Indiana was runner-up with 1,294.5 points in the four-team field.
Freshman Caitlin Dauw(St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and senior Hannah Smith(Dexter, Mich./Dexter) each picked up top-three finishes for the Wolverines, who also placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Smith earned her fourth top-three finish of the competition when she finished third in the 200-yard backstroke. Smith battled with Kate Zubcova from Indiana and Tricia Weaner throughout the race but was outpaced in the final 25 yards, touching the wall in third at 1:59.39.
Dauw picked up U-M's top finish of the day with a second-place touch in the 200-yard butterfly. Dauw out swam Tennessee's Jennifer Connolly, finishing with a time of 2:02.33, .40 seconds ahead of the Volunteer swimmer.
Michigan closed out the competition with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Wolverines finished with a time of 3:25.67, four seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher.
U-M returns to action next Saturday (Jan.17) when it travels to Evanston, Ill., to battle Northwestern in dual-meet action. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CST at the Norris Aquatics Center.
