Michigan's Winning Streak Snapped by New Hampshire in Double OT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team lost a 3-2 decision in double overtime to New Hampshire on Sunday (Oct. 11) in a neutral-site match. U-M fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 but tied the game at 56:04 to force overtime.
Michigan goal scorers were juniors Zara Saydjari (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area) and Vanessa Sekhon (West Vancouver, B.C./Collingwood). With the Wolverines down 1-0, Sekhon tallied her second goal of the year from the middle of circle at 13:12. Junior Meredith Way (Newmanstown, Pa./Warwick) had the assist.
UNH would retake the lead, 2-1, at 25:02 but the Wolverines battled back as Saydjari knotted the game at 2-2 at 56:04. She settled an Adele Mills (North Vancouver, B.C./Little Flower Academy) crossing pass and deposited it into the goal.
The decisive goal came at 92:55 of the second overtime as Wildcat Meg Shea sent a sweep shot into the lower left corner of the Michigan cage past redshirt sophomore Christi Barwick (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines), who finished the day with a career-high 13 saves.
Michigan will spend next weekend (Oct. 17-18) in Ohio. U-M looks to improve upon its 2-1 Big Ten record when it visits Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. Michigan then ventures further south to face the Miami RedHawks on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
