ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior/sophomore goalkeeper Chris Blais (Seattle, Wash./Kennedy Memorial) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week today (Monday, Oct. 19) for his six saves in U-M's shutout win at Cincinnati on Oct. 14.
This is Blais' first career TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week recognition and is the third time this season a Wolverine has been named to the site's National Team of the Week. Senior forward Mauro Fuzetti (Houston, Texas/Stratford) and freshman midfielder Hamoody Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) were named to the National Team of the Week earlier this season. Blais was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 14 after backstopping the Wolverines to two shutout victories at the Michigan Invitational, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Blais, who is in his first season as U-M's starting goalkeeper, posted his fifth shutout of the season in U-M's 2-0 victory at Cincinnati. He tied his career best with six saves and has been a brick wall for the Wolverines in goal this season. Blais has allowed just 12 goals and sports a 0.95 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage. He is tied for second in the Big Ten in saves with 48 and in shutouts with five. Blais also ranks fourth in save percentage and saves per game (3.69) in the conference.
The Wolverines conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday (Oct. 20) when they welcome top-ranked Akron to the U-M Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Wolverines close out the week with the battle for the Big Bear Trophy when they take on in-state rival Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., on Sunday (Oct. 25). Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Michigan State's DeMartin Soccer Complex.
