Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
Opening statement ... "I thought it was a good game. From our standpoint, the early penalties hurt us. It's hard to get any momentum when you're killing penalties. I think there were four penalties in the first period. The second period was not much better. In the third period I thought our team started to compete harder and turn the wheel. College hockey is a game of momentum and we started to get some momentum. We finally got a break around the net. I liked the way we were playing. It was just a bad goal on our goalie in the end to decide the game."
On U-M's play in the third period ... "I thought we skated harder. I thought we competed better. We moved the puck better. We played with a little more confidence with the puck. We were playing evened up more -- a lot of four-on-four and five-on-five hockey. It wasn't so much about special teams. I thought we started to carry the play."
On Bryan Hogan playing well despite allowing three goals ... "It was too bad because [Bryan] Hogan had a good game going and we needed to score for him. He kept us in the game. He played the one puck off the glass, which a goalie should never play. When the puck comes around the boards you might play it, but not on the glass. He played the first one off the glass, it took a bad bounce and bang it's in our net. The second one -- the ice is not good as the game gets near the end -- he's anticipating the puck is going to move better than it did. His decision was not good and his execution wasn't good either. It was a bad goal. It's too bad because he had a good game, but you can't hide it."
U-M Junior Center Matt Rust
On Boston University goalie Kieran Millan ... "We definitely had some screens in fronts there. Especially in the first period -- my line in particular -- I had a couple chances in front where he made some unbelievable stops -- stops where I thought the puck was going in the net. Especially on the power play and during the third period We were firing shots from everywhere. We had two or three guys in front consistently and he was getting his pads on pucks. That just says something to the kind of game he played. He stood on his head when he needed to."
On the amount of physical play ... "When you're playing a game like this it's always going to be physical. I think from the drop of the puck until the end of the game, when you got the puck you got ready to get hit. It definitely played a role. Our team needed to do more of it. I think we got out-hit early in the game, the first two periods in particular. In the third period we tried to play more physical and get the puck lower and we ended up getting more chances. I think that's a learning experience for us and we have to take that into our next series."
On his goal ... "The play was set up by Luke [Glendening]. Luke carried the puck through the center of the ice, drew a defender, which gave me space to get wide, and then made a nice pass under the defender's stick. One thing I've been working on lately is taking the puck more to the net and not veering off wide. I tried to take it to the net and saw a spot top right and put it there. Normally I don't actually put it there, but I put it there this time."
