EVANSTON, Ill. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team pushed its winning streak to three games with a 7-0, shutout win over Saint Louis on Saturday (Oct. 3) at Northwestern's Lakeside field. U-M put up two goals in the first five minutes of play and extended its lead to 5-0 by halftime to cruise to the easy win.
Junior Meredith Way (Newmanstown, Pa./Warwick) scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season to lead U-M's scorers. Her first tally proved to be the gamewinner as she kicked off the scoring at 1:46 of the first half and added her second in the 48th minute. Way's first was followed by three U-M goals from the 4:28 to 12:30 marks.
Meanwhile, freshman Adele Mills (North Vancouver, B.C./Little Flower Academy) scored her first career goal and added an assist, tallying U-M's fifth marker of the game just before halftime.
Junior/sophomore Soula Ellenikiotis (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) capped the scoring at 52:28 with her first career goal, while junior/sophomore goalkeeper Christi Barwick (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) got the shutout by stopping the only shot that came her way.
Michigan heads to Cambridge, Mass., next weekend (Oct. 10-11) to face Harvard and New Hampshire. U-M takes on the Crimson at noon on Saturday, Oct. 10.
