EVANSTON, Ill. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team moved into third place after the second day of competition at the TYR Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Norris Aquatics Center. The Wolverines had a runner-up finish to go along with three third-place finishes on the evening to move into third place after sitting in fifth after the first day of competition yesterday (Friday, Nov. 20).

Freshman Miguel Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) picked up runner-up honors in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 50.05 to go along with three third-place finishes on the night.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Ortiz, junior James Ridgeway (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick), freshman Eric Huffman (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and freshman Sam Hoekstra (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) started off the evening with a third-place finish, hitting the wall in 1:31.62.

Ortiz then picked up a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 49.52 to finish as Michigan's best individual place on the evening.

The Wolverines concluded the evening with a third-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 6:52.66.

The Wolverines will conclude competition at the TYR Invitational tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 22), with preliminary action beginning at 10 a.m. CST. Finals are slated for 5 p.m. from the Norris Aquatics Center.
