
Cole Victorious in 200-meter Dash at Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Saturday (April 25) at the Ken Herrick Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
Junior Alisha Cole (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) earned the lone event victory at the meet for the Wolverines, winning the 200-meter dash with season-best time of 24.50. Cole earned the event victory by five one-hundredths of a second ahead of LaShawn Vaughns of Toledo (24.55). Cole also finished second in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 11.99 seconds.
Meanwhile, junior Teleicia Rose(Clinton Township, Mich./Clintondale) finished in the top five for U-M, finishing fifth in 12.11. Lewis' Ashley Butler won the sprint in 11.87. Rose also took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.27. First place in the 100 hurdles was earned by Buffalo's Lataya Dixon in 13.77.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Brittani Williams(Detroit, Mich./Jackson) earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 56.91. Former Wolverine Katie Waits (2003-06) won the 400 with a time of 54.58.
Brittani Williams also ran the anchor leg on U-M's 4x400-meter relay, which also included freshman Alexandria Williams(Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), Cole and fifth-year senior Linda Montgomery(Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), that earned a runner-up finish in 3:47.75. Indiana Tech took the 4x400 crown, clocking in with a time of 3:47.09.
Freshman Lindsay Gakenheimer(Monroe, Mich./Monroe) recorded a top-five finish, taking fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a finish of 4:44.05. The 1,500-meter victory was earned by Hannah Humbach of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as she crossed the line in 4:35.20.
On Friday, freshman Tofunmi Akeredolu(Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) wrapped up a second-place finish in the heptathlon, scoring 4,766 points while earning victories in the 200-meter dash and long jump. Akeredolu took the 200 with a time of 24.26 and registered a top leap of 19-2 1/2 (5.85m) to win the long jump. Caitlin Godin of Buffalo won the heptathlon with 4,821 points.
The Wolverines return to action next Friday (May 1) when they compete in the first day of the two-day Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Competition begins at 2 p.m. U-M will also compete on Saturday (May 2) at the Payton Jordan Classic in Palo Alto, Calif.
