
Former Michigan Student-Athlete Brett Sickler Joins Rowing Staff

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- University of Michigan head rowing coach Mark Rothstein announced the addition of former U-M student-athlete Brett Sickler to his staff on Friday (Aug. 7). Sickler, who joins the staff of her alma mater, is a three-time USRowing senior national team member and served as a marketing analyst at Johnson & Johnson.
"Brett will bring tremendous enthusiasm and rowing knowledge to our staff, and I am truly excited to have her back at Michigan to work with us," said Rothstein. "It is great to have an alumna with Brett's qualifications on our staff -- she knows rowing and she knows Michigan. I think that she is a perfect fit for our staff."
Sickler, who served as a Team USA alternate at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, is quite accomplished in international competition. She won two gold medals in the eight at the FISA World Championships (2006-07) and is a world record holder in the event. In 2006, she finished 12th in double sculls at the World Championships. This year, she represented the United States in the women's single. In World Cup competition, she won gold in 2006 and 2007. Sickler also earned the 2006 Remenham Cup at the 2006 Henley Royal Regatta.
A member the U-M rowing team from 2001-05, Sickler was a three-time member of the first varsity eight, rowing with the second varsity eight during her freshman year.As a senior, she earned All-Big Ten second team honors. She help U-M finish third in the first varsity eight at the 2004 NCAA Championships and finished second in the first varsity eight at the 2003 NCAA Championships.
Sickler is currently competing at the USRowing World Championship trials for a spot at the 2009 FISA World Championships to be held later this month.
