ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team played No. 1 Maryland to a stalemate for 48 minutes before surrendering four goals over five minutes en route to a 4-1 loss on Sunday (Sept. 6) at the Maryland Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Sophomore Bryn Bain(Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) prevented the shutout by scoring her second goal of the weekend with 6:47 left in regulation. For the third time in four games, fifth-year senior goalie Paige Pickett(Dallas, Texas/Episcopal School of Dallas) made double-digit saves (10) in the U-M cage.
From 48:33 to 53:10 the Terrapins blew the game open with four goals. Nicole Muracco opened the scoring and Ameliet Rischen made it 2-0 at 51:25. Katie O'Donnell capped the scoring back-to-back goals at 52:25 and 53:10.
The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor next weekend to play their home opener against Connecticut on Saturday (Sept. 12). Game time is noon at Phyllis Ocker Field.
