Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "To come home and assert ourselves at home was important. It wasn't an easy game. The score might look like it was a one-sided game, but the game was on the line throughout the second period -- [especially] when it was a 2-1 game and we were killing a five-minute major penalty, playing five against three. I thought our penalty killing was definitely a factor in the game tonight. Tonight our power play was definitely a factor. We only had one goal against and that is important for us because we have been giving up too many goals."
On what the sweep does for the team ... "It's another step. We've talked about taking it one game and one weekend at a time. There is no room for error at this point. We have to take advantage of this weekend. I think it will give us a boost of confidence. It got some guys on the scoresheet that have not been on the scoresheet for a while. When looking at the whole weekend, it helped our special teams. Bryan Hogan came back and gave us a good game when he had chances against, which maybe were too many for my liking. He was solid after the first goal. I think a lot of good things came out of this weekend. "
U-M Senior Defenseman Chris Summers
On the five-on-three penalty kill ... "It's huge. Penalties can work in your favor, especially when you kill them and especially when you have 7,000 people rooting for you. That's a big boost for our team and that was definitely a turning point in the game. It's our game. We'll go five-on-three and shut you down."
On gaining momentum from the penalty kill ... "It definitely gives you confidence defensively. We've struggled all year playing five-on-three. I think we've had more five-on-three goals against than we've had five-on-four goals against. That's a huge momentum swing for us. It's a good boost for the team."
U-M Junior Forward Carl Hagelin
On building off this weekend's wins ... "We have two home games coming up. It's important for us to get some confidence from this weekend. We played well and we had a good week of practice last week. It starts in practice; we talk a lot about that. It has to come from ourselves. We have to have a good week of practice and build from this weekend [for next weekend]."
On Michigan's quick first goal ... "Michigan hockey is about coming out flying and trying to score on your first shift. Anytime you can get that goal and get the team rolling, hopefully the other team will get [back] on its heels."
