Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "Well, my impressions are that we came out and played hard in the first period. It may have been a boring game from upstairs but at the ice level it was a hard-fought, close game. When they scored that first goal and we came back and answered it was important. After that the goals were hard to come by and obviously very precious. And when we gave up that second goal, which was a poor play on our part, that was a costly goal and we just couldn't get that one back. The third goal we won the face-off in their zone and they came back, created a two-on-one, out skated on of our best players, and ended up in our net. We couldn't answer that. Whether we looked tired or we got discouraged I can't tell you. But I thought our game was going downhill the second half of the game."
On missed scoring opportunities ... "You have got to put one of those in. I thought we had the edge and played a lot in their zone but we weren't getting quality chances. We were getting just about chances. Maybe our puck touches weren't as good or our puck luck wasn't as good but the first period was our best period."
On goalie Shawn Hunwick ... "He gave us a chance. When the game was on the line he gave us a chance. He stopped two of those near breakaway plays and that was huge in the game. He hasn't played in two weeks but he looked sharp in the first half. I don't think he'll like that second goal but nobody's perfect and our team has to give him more of a cushion."
U-M Senior Forward Carl Hagelin
On overcoming power-play struggles ... "It's probably a lot of frustration and not enough confidence at the moment. We just need a lucky goal. It's important to just start getting pucks to the net and to play more simple. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow."
On his goal ... "It is always nice to score but when you do not win it does not really matter. We got off to a good start and the first period was one of our better periods all year. Then we kind of collapsed in the third which is unfortunate."
U-M Junior Forward Luke Glendening
On tonight's game ... "I think we came out strong. I think we played well for the first period and a half. Then things started to go downhill. We worked hard and some parts of our game were good but we were beat in others."
On goalie Shawn Hunwick ... "He has been playing well for us all year. He has kind of had the misfortune of playing on Friday night, if you want to call it that. He's kept us in games and he kept us in it tonight. He made a lot of big saves for us. He played really well."
