ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior forward Justin Meram (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named College Soccer News National Player of the Week and to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for his two-goal effort in No. 19 U-M's 3-1 win at No. 18 South Carolina on Sunday (Nov. 28) that sent Michigan into the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in program history and the first time since the 2003 season.
This is Meram's first College Soccer News National Player of the Week honor and he becomes the second Wolverine to be named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week, joining freshman teammate Soony Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn), who was also honored by College Soccer News as the nation's top player of the week earlier this season.
During U-M's postseason run, Meram has tallied at least one goal in each game he has played in, including the game-winner to give Michigan its first Big Ten Tournament title in a 4-1 win at Penn State on Nov. 14. Meram has tallied at least one goal in each of U-M's last seven games and has netted 10 markers in U-M's last seven games. He is Michigan's second-leading scorer with 15 goals this season and leads the team in assists with eight.
The Wolverines will head to College Park, Md., to take on No. 3 Maryland in the Elite Eight with a spot in the 2010 College Cup on the line on Saturday (Dec. 4) at 1 p.m. at Maryland's Ludwig Field. Fans can catch a live webcast of the game on NCAA.com/all-access.
