TAMPA, Fla. -- In the first outdoor action of the 2010 season, the University of Michigan women's track and field team won three events -- discus, 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay -- on Friday (March 19) at the Bulls Invitational at the USF Track and Field Stadium.

The Wolverines swept the top three spots in the discus as junior captain Emily Pendleton (Lindsay, Ohio/Woodmore) won the event with a toss of 53.98 meters (177-01). Freshman Erin Pendleton (Lindsay, Ohio/Woodmore) followed in second (51.04 meters, 167-05) and redshirt sophomore Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) took third (47.27 meters, 155-01).

Sophomore Julian Purvis (Oakland, Calif./St. Elizabeth) came away with a victory in the 100-meter hurdles (13.72) and led off for the victorious 4x100-meter relay team, joining redshirt junior Alisha Cole (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac), senior Teleicia Rose (Clinton Township, Mich./Clintondale) and redshirt senior Shana Vinson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) to combine for a time of 46.24.

The Wolverines finished with five runner-up showings, as Liske picked up second place in the shot put (15.03 meters, 49-03.75) and Emily Pendleton finished second in the hammer throw (53.16 meters, 174-05) to highlight the effort in the field.

On the track, the 4x400-meter relay team (3:46.07) finished second, while Kaitlyn Peale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) just missed a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:30.59). Rounding out the top performers for the Maize and Blue was Alexandria Williams (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.89) with a second-place performance.

The Wolverines are back in action next weekend (Fri-Sat., March 26-27), traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational. Friday's action begins at 3 p.m. PDT, while Saturday's events commence at 9 a.m.
