Over the three-day event, the Wolverines battled among the top three before slipping in the final round to close sixth in the second to last regular season event. In Friday's opening round (March 27), Kim paced the way with an even-par 71 after 13 pars and three birdies in his round, while junior Alexander Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Fla.]) carded a one-over 72 to give U-M an opening 290 tally to sit tied for third after the first day.
The Wolverines caught fire on Saturday, shooting an even-par 284 to grab sole possession of third after 36 holes. Kim led the charge again with a three-under 68, carding a seven-birdie round. Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Andrew Sapp
On U-M's play at the FAU Spring Break Championship ... "We just closed today with a terrible round. It was definitely disappointing given how well we played the first two rounds. Whenever you have bogeys and even higher scores on the last few holes it is going to hurt your finish in a tight field and it was a tight field. We just found ourselves going backwards and we just cannot afford to do that.
"It was nice to see Lion (Kim) continue to play well. He has really done a great job this spring. We cannot play like this and expect to win. We have to play better if we are going to compete for tournament titles. I know the guys have it in them and they know they can do better.
"We have a month to work out tails off to get ready for Big Tens and we have a week and a half to get back out there and play at N.C. State's tournament. So it will be nice to get back out there and get this bad round out of the way."
