
Wolverines Open Spring Season Against Hurricanes

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team concluded its annual spring break training trip with a series of controlled pieces against the University of Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes on Saturday (March 6). The teams competed in three pieces, limited to four minutes, instead of a standard 2,000-meter race. The varsity boats raced the first piece at a stroke rating of 28, while the final two pieces had a stroke rating of 30.
The Wolverines boated a first and second varsity eight, while the Hurricanes boated a first varsity eight. Michigan won each of the three pieces with the first varsity eight earning the top spot followed by the second varsity eight and the Miami first varsity eight.
The U-M novice team also raced in three controlled piece, limited to four minutes. The stroke rating was 26 for all three pieces. The Wolverines boated a first and second novice eight, while the Hurricanes raced one novice eight. The Wolverines finished in first and second, respectively, in all three pieces.
The Wolverines begin the spring season in earnest on March 27 when they travel to East Lansing, Mich., for a dual with in-state rival Michigan State.
