FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association named University of Michigan ice hockey forward Chris Brown (Flower Mound, Texas) to the CCHA All-Rookie Team on Monday (March 8).
In 28 CCHA contests, Brown posted 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points, putting him second among rookie scorers in the league. His seven power-play goals were tied for the most by any CCHA player. Overall, the right winger has 12-14-26 totals in 39 games played. He has earned a +5 plus/minus rating and 52 penalty minutes. Brown's 12 goals and 26 points rank third and fourth, respectively, on U-M's roster. He also has eight multi-point games.
Brown, a second-round draft choice (36th overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, earned a pair of CCHA Player of the Week awards in the fall. He was the CCHA Rookie of the Week on Nov. 2 and the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Dec. 7.
Since 1998, Michigan has had 20 players named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team. U-M has had at least one player on the team in 11 of the 13 campaigns during that span.
The other freshmen named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team include Notre Dame goaltender Mike Johnson, Michigan State defenseman Torey Krug, Miami defenseman Joe Hartman, Nebraska-Omaha forward Terry Broadhurst and Alaska forward Andy Taranto.
The Wolverines continue their postseason run this weekend (Fri-Sun., March 12-14) when they travel to East Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State in the CCHA quarterfinals. The best-of-three series begins with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop on Friday, March 12. The game will be televised by Comcast (channel 900). Saturday's (March 13) game will start at 7:05 p.m., and again be televised by Comcast. If necessary, Sunday's (March 14) decisive contest would start at 7:05 p.m.
