
Patterson, Pellegrini Post Career Bests at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Freshman Kaitlyn Patterson (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) placed 11th and sophomore/freshman Mary Grace Pellegrini (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) finished 14th in the 5,000-meter Olympic development run on the first day of running at the Penn Relays on Thursday (April 22) at Franklin Field. This is the only day in the event U-M will compete.
Patterson finished in a career-best time of 17:01.55 to finish 11th, while Pellegrini crossed the finish line in a career-best 17:07.31 for a 14th-place showing for the Wolverines in the 5,000-meter run.
The distance medley relay quartet of senior/junior Jenny Morgan (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), sophomore Brittani Williams (Detroit, Mich./Jackson), freshman Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and junior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) were not able to participate in college DMR after Morgan fell and injured herself at the beginning of the race. The competition was restarted, but Michigan was unable to start due to Morgan's injury.
The rest of the Wolverines begin split-squad competition tomorrow (Friday, April 23) at the Drake Relays (9 a.m. CDT) and Hillsdale Relays (10 a.m.).

Mary Grace Pellegrini's previous career best in the 5k was 17:28.00. Kaitlyn Patterson's previous best was 17:14.27.
The distance medley relay consists of a 1,200-meter leg, a 400-meter leg, an 800-meter leg and a 1,600-meter leg in that order.
Michigan won the DMR title in 2008 (10:49.58) at the Penn Relays.
The Penn Relays is the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country.
